Child Nutrition
School meals through the North Colonie School District Food and Nutrition Office will continue to be available to all students, including those attending school in-person and those learning remotely.
For information about how meal information will be communicated, visit the Communication/Family and Community Engagement section of our reopening plan.
For students onsite, meals will be provided while maintaining appropriate social distancing between students while also considering increasing access points for providing meal service. Students do not need to wear face coverings when seated and eating so long as they are appropriately socially distanced.
Students in Nursery – Grade 3 will be eating breakfast and lunch in their classroom with either the Individual Safety Barriers or Social Distancing in place. Students in Grades 4 and 5 will be eating breakfast in their classroom, but lunch in the cafeteria (in grade-level shifts with cleaning in between) while seated socially distanced as marked by signage on the cafeteria tables. All surfaces used for meals will be cleaned before and after each meal.
The School Nurse will provide each teacher, and relevant staff member, a list of food allergies and any symptoms for the children in that class.
Our School Nurse will coordinate school personnel in order to meet the feeding safety needs of students with disabilities.
All students will be required to wash their hands prior to the beginning of meal service and after the meal has been consumed. Handwashing posters will be displayed in each classroom.
A classroom list of rules for meal service will also be posted in each classroom. For example, handwashing procedures, no sharing of food or drinks, social distancing, disinfecting of desks after meals, etc.
Snack: Students will continue to bring a daily snack to school. If a child does not have a snack, one will be provided with pre-packaging. Student desks/tables will be cleaned prior to snack. Students will wash hands prior to snack. Student desks/tables will be cleaned after snack.
