Fourth Graders become experts on New York State as they learn the history,
geography, economics, and government of our state. They use both historical fiction and primary sources to understand major historical events and changes from Colonial times to current day.
Fourth Graders study science through inquiry-based experiments designed to support understanding of Energy, Waves, Earth Systems, and how organisms perceive and remember information.
In Fifth Grade, students will continue to build confidence as independent learners in preparation for their transition to middle school.

Math
Fifth grade mathematics is about:
(1) developing fluency with addition and subtraction of fractions, and developing understanding of the multiplication of fractions and of division of fractions in limited cases (unit fractions divided by whole numbers and whole numbers divided by unit fractions);
(2) extending division to two-digit divisors, integrating decimal fractions into the place value system and developing understanding of operations with decimals to hundredths, and developing fluency with whole number and decimal operations.
Social Studies
Fifth Graders study the Western Hemisphere including Geography, the development of Economic Systems, European Exploration and how societies have changed over time. Students read and write informational text and use sources to demonstrate their understanding of history, geography, economics and changes over time.
Science
It's all about Matter in grade 5! Our students further their understanding of the properties of matter and then study matter and energy in ecosystems and then move onto space systems. Students use and create models to comprehend science concepts such as change and interaction of forces.
