Our third graders work on the identified skills and concepts outlined in the Next Generation Learning Standards. They continue to develop and master literacy skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening. They read a range of literature and informational text and use their skills to infer ideas, find themes within and across texts, use historical context to comprehend elements of narratives such as descriptive language, conflict, and plot, and compare and contrast sources to deepen their understanding of events and scientific discoveries.
Our Third Graders take the New York State tests in English Language Arts and Mathematics. We use these results to improve our curriculum and instruction approaches. These tests occur in the spring of each year.
Our Third Graders hone their math skills by mastering mutliplication tables, using information to solve problems, and understanding the relationship between multiplication and addition AND multiplication and division.
